4/17/09 – Yes, the “new cut” of The Sickness is finally completed at last! This version contains some hot and frightful scenes that are not in the original cut, as well a careful trimming of the existing material. We plan on having a theatrical screening in New York City shortly, so be on the look out for a future update.
3/30/09 – On April 1st, PBS took a sensitive look at how military families cope with change. With the help of Elmo and his Sesame Street friends, this program tells the story of soldiers who are returning home with injuries and explores the heroic struggles their families face on the path to finding the “new normal” in their lives. The show is called, Coming Home, and the music score is by Peter Calandra. See link HERE to a copy of the advertisement.
2/23/09 – Fresh off the presses, Fangoria gets the scoop on the new cut of The Sickness. We don’t want to spoil the story, so check it out for yourself. This is the most up-to-date information complete with some new pictures. See it HERE (outlide link to fangoria.com).
2/16/09 – This summer will see the release of legendary film director, Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock. Be sure not to miss this recreation of the generation-defining concert in the summer of 1969. Be on the look out for Kevin, he’s the hippie who starts the food riot!
2/01/09 – Peter Calandra, who created the rich and moving music score for The Sickness, has just completed the opening theme for the Special Olympics Games. You can see/hear the opening montage on You Tube HERE (outside link to You Tube). It is so worth checking out!
1/01/09 – Local New York City band Android Lust (who produced and performed their song, “Friction”, for the opening of The Sickness) has had several of their songs featured on the hit CBS TV series, Navy: NCIS. This February their songs will be part of the NCIS: The Official TV Soundtrack release. You can find out more about the release HERE (outside link to ncismusic.com).
10/25/08 – At the request of several prominent film distributors, a few additional scenes were shot this month to be added to our film. As you may already have guessed, they contain some pretty gruesome make up FX. These scenes follow the Lina character outside the facility. We the welcome the new talent to our cast: Corey Noble as Lina’s ex-boyfriend and Tania Diaz-Flores as his present girlfriend. You can read all about them on our BIOS page. We expect the new cut of The Sickness to be completed in March 2009.
9/1/08 – Our very own Kat Castaneda (Tal) co-stars in Catching The Fever, an American Pie-ish coming-of-age comedy. She plays the part of Jessica and it has just been released on DVD. Look for it!
5/1/08 - This May Well Go is releasing ZA: Zombies Anonymous into the Home Video and DVD market. Our very own Christa McNamee (Claire) stars and Kevin T. Collins (Justo) co-star in a very bloody saga about a society that co-exists with zombies.
03/17/08 – This April Grindstone Entertainment Group and Lionsgate are releasing Knock Knock into the home video market. Our very own Kat Castaneda co-stars in the psychological horror thriller.
03/12/08 – Our Los Angeles screening went off without a hitch. It was held in a historic theater on the Warner Bros. Studio lot, right near their trademark water tower. Antidote Films representatives in attendance were: writer/director Carl Paolino, business manager Susan Dee, security/event organizer Russell Shaver, Kat Castaneda (who you all remember as Tal), and our second Director of Photography, Peter Schmitt. There were several theatrical film distributors represented in the audience as well as a healthy helping of family, friends, and local horror fans. This was the first time anyone had the opportunity to see the film exquisitely projected up onto a full size movie screen. The image and sound quality equaled a multi million dollar film production, our congratulations to our post production staff.
The LA buzz has begun. In the days following the screening Carl Paolino has had meetings with top executives to explore distribution opportunities. We are currently in discussion with distributors on both coasts to get the film purchased, distributed, and into theaters.
03/06/08 – The Sickness spreads to L.A! On March 12, 2008, there was a private screening (by invitation only) at Warner Bros. Studios, in Screening Room 12.
03/05/08 – Peter Calandra’s music score plays
a very important part in setting the lonely and foreboding mood that dwells
in the mysterious setting of our film. For all of Peters fans and any
new-comers who crave the taste of well crafted suspenseful music, please
check out his web site. You can sample eight musical selections from the
film, or read a little about how Peter created that magnificent score.

03/02/08 – As we eagerly prepare for our Los Angeles
screening (AKA, the World Premiere of The Sickness), we are lucky
to have in our corner Susan Dee and Russell Shaver. Both are experienced
in designing and coordinating business conferences and other smaller venues
for their clients. Their keen business skills have made them our go-to
people in the handling all of our business affairs concerning the Los
Angeles event. This includes, but is not limited to the screening, our
press kits and distribution liaison. They can be reached HERE
(sdassociates@nycap.rr.com).
02/25/08 – The Tisch Alumni Council Newsletter of
New York City’s prestigious New York University has announced the
appearance of our very own Kevin T. Collins (known to most of you as Justo),
a graduate of the drama department, in The Sickness. You can view the
complete newsletter announcement HERE.
02/21/08 - Michael Gingold of Fangoria online has put together
one hell of an article about our trials and tribulations to create
The Sickness. We chose two very special shots just for him. So
check this out right now! (but beware, not for the faint of heart): see
it HERE
(image of article).
02/18/08 - It looks like Film Stew did a little bit of research on us and found out how versatile we are, thus added to the Whitestone Times article. They came up with our animated TV series, The Wrong Coast and published a picture from one of our favorite sketches; “Gilligan’s Matrix”. Paul J. Mason produced the first season of the groundbreaking series and Carl Paolino directed it. We applaud their research team and quality journalism! To read the article, follow THIS LINK (outside link to filmstew.com).
02/18/08 - "The Sickness is in the best tradition of low budget horror, I found myself squirming, grossing out and laughing - all at the same time.” David Sporn (Executive Producer, Tamara; Producer, The Road from Erebus).
02/14/08 – This behind-the-scenes article begins to capture the hardship that we all went through on the making of, The Sickness. A special thanks to Nathan Duke for lending an astute ear. Read it HERE.
02/14/08 – Here is an article in The Queens Courier about the side effect of the Hollywood writers strike on our local community, and how it affected the people behind The Sickness (namely the producers). This call was made to me by Jessica Lyons and was completely out-of-the-blue...read it HERE (outside link to queenscourier.com).
02/02/08 - Here is a review after a very private screening: "The Sickness is Sartre's 'No Exit' in modern dress. Five hostile people are trapped in some vague claustrophobic government laboratory, their malignant psyches made visible through the inexorable spread of a lethal contagion. Confident screenwriting and resourceful direction build to a frantic, pestilent third act." - Roy Frumkes (Producer/Director/Writer: Dream of the Dead: George Romero, The Substitute, Document of the Dead, and Street Trash). Thanks again to Roy, we appreciate your coming to check the film out.
01/29/08 - Check out this little write up our friends over at Dread Central gave us, available HERE (outside link to dreadcentral.com). While you're there, enjoy their site as well. It is the go-to place for everything in horror!
01/14/08 - We now have a publicist working on our Press Kit. She is Susan Goldstein of Goldstein Media Group. All inquiries should be emailed to Antidote Films, Inc. HERE (cpseffects@aol.com).
10/27/07 - On October 9, 2007, The
Sickness was officially completed! We would like to extend our deepest
thanks to all who were involved in both phases of production: the principal
photography and the subsequent reshoot. We would, however, like to give
special thanks to a few members of our reshoot and post production crew
simply because they were not involved in the original preproduction and
shooting stages, and because many of them volunteered their time and talents
to help us complete the film. They are: Peter Schmitt, our DP, who flew
out here from LA on his own dime and meticulously matched the existing
footage to re-create the big finale; Gretchen Vinnedge, who drove out
from Michigan to run a much needed second camera, also on her own dime;
to Larry Schmitt, our editor (no relation to Peter), who is quite simply
the fastest editor we have ever worked with, and a master of the digital
editing world; to Peter Calandra, our Composer, for a magnificent full-orchestra
sounding score; to Oscar Zambrano and Jorge Castellanos of Zampol Productions,
for their tireless effort and creative work as our Sound Designers; and
to Shikhee Khan and her band Android Lust, for our films opening
song.
To this end, The Sickness is off to the festivals! We promise
to keep you all up to date on our progress; but if we are remiss in our
correspondence, please check in from time to time to catch the latest
news on the films progress. We are anticipating a positive response: that
being said, you all may want to note that the screenplay for the sequel,
The Sickness II, is already in-the-works...but more on that as
it arises!
